Precarious living conditions are linked to negative health outcomes for many people, as are exploiting or mentally taxing working conditions; and the long-term stress caused by a lack of social recognition and stigma is also a driver for illness. This is why Betina Aumair and Brigitte Theißl shed light on social injustices at different levels, keeping in mind that they are all connected: in the healthcare system, in the legal system, in education, and the housing and job markets. In Austria, too, life chances are largely governed by neoliberal ideals of self-responsibility, meritocracy and corresponding political decisions.
