A weekend with a view

Look closely at what is happening.
Ilse Aichinger

Program

For three days, journalists will meet other knowledgeable mediators of information from different regions of the world in Innsbruck. In conversations with colleagues and other experts, visitors find out what is going on behind the scenes of the information on international events, which is often hastily and superficially conveyed, and can contribute.

Current social, political and cultural developments are the focus of the debates, from book presentations, exhibitions, doc-films and audio features. The Journalismusfest Innsbruck opens a window to the complex present in which we live.

Challenges for the Media Landscape

News media are in the midst of a process of transformation with unclear outcomes. Advertising revenue – an important source of income for many outlets – has long been flowing towards the big digital platforms, and the major search engines’ AI features are directing users away from journalistic content. Private media outlets are under pressure; in 2025, many journalists in Austria lost their job. What are the alternative ways to strengthen journalism? Who should and who can finance independent journalism: Readers, private investors, the state? Experts from foundations, a media support fund, a democracy initiative and from Presseclub Concordia will explore alternative paths to bolster independent journalism as a cornerstone of democratic communities.
Questions from the audience are warmly welcomed.
