A weekend with a view

Look closely at what is happening.
Ilse Aichinger

Program

For three days, journalists will meet other knowledgeable mediators of information from different regions of the world in Innsbruck. In conversations with colleagues and other experts, visitors find out what is going on behind the scenes of the information on international events, which is often hastily and superficially conveyed, and can contribute.

Current social, political and cultural developments are the focus of the debates, from book presentations, exhibitions, doc-films and audio features. The Journalismusfest Innsbruck opens a window to the complex present in which we live.

Covering: Gaza

Doctors Without Borders says “Our mission will continue.” The aid agency will stay put. Although at least 327 aid workers have lost their lives in the Gaza Strip since October 2023. For the Palestinian population, the situation remains persistently catastrophic. A report of Doctors Without Borders from December 2024 is labelled “Life in a death trap” “Nowhere is safe, nobody is safe; and there is no exit from this havocked enclave”. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, until April 2025, over 50,000 people were killed as a consequence of the continuing Israeli attacks. According to the UN, 70 percent of them are women and children. Already back in May 2024, German weekly magazine ZEIT conducted comprehensive research on the extent of the hunger catastrophe; in collaboration with 12 other media outlets, paper trail media published a comprehensive report on the targeted killing of journalists. According to Reporters Without Borders this seems like the “systematic oppression of media coverage.”
