For five years, Journalismusfest Innsbruck has brought together journalists, researchers, artists and audiences to discuss media, the public sphere and democracy. In celebration of this minor anniversary, we want to reflect on our journey and share experiences, developments and perspectives along with festivals from other countries. Journalism festivals create spaces to address current issues concerning journalism and public communication. How have these festivals developed in recent years? Which topics make it to the stage, and what are the debates that resonate with the audience? And given the current challenges in journalism, to what extent can such events help us address the erosion of trust, disinformation and shifting media consumption habits?
