A weekend with a view

Look closely at what is happening.
Ilse Aichinger

Program

For three days, journalists will meet other knowledgeable mediators of information from different regions of the world in Innsbruck. In conversations with colleagues and other experts, visitors find out what is going on behind the scenes of the information on international events, which is often hastily and superficially conveyed, and can contribute.

Current social, political and cultural developments are the focus of the debates, from book presentations, exhibitions, doc-films and audio features. The Journalismusfest Innsbruck opens a window to the complex present in which we live.

Good News From All Over the World

In Europe, we often hear bad news about Africa or Asia. But who would have guessed that Rwanda is the country with the highest number of women in parliament worldwide? Or that the oldest oil paintings on the globe were painted in Afghanistan. A lot can be reported about each and every country; everywhere on the world, humans accomplish great things. But still, some countries are depicted in a single-sided and negative light in school books and the media. Together with the authors Minitta Kandlbauer and Melanie Kandlbauer, we will embark on a journey to Syria and Turkey, to Nigeria and Somalia. In an interactive reading, they will present their children’s non-fiction book “Gute Nachrichten aus aller Welt” (Good News From All Over the World), illustrated by Yani Hamdy, published by Leykam in 2024.
