Jannis Brühl was born in Nürnberg and is head of the digital team of German daily newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. He covers digital economy, social media, artificial intelligence and big tech. He holds a degree in Politics and American Studies at the Universities of Erlangen and Portland, Oregon. After his traineeship with the online version of Süddeutsche Zeitung, Sz.de, he worked for the economics department. 2013—Arthur-F.-Burns scholar in ProPublica’s New York-based editorial team. Until 2015—correspondent for German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Cologne and Düsseldorf. Since 2025—also covering finance and work-life topics.
