Klaus Walter, was born in 1955, is based in Frankfurt am Main and has been covering the topics pop culture, soccer and politics since the mid-70s. In the 80s, he was editor for the magazine Pflasterstrand, since 1984, he has been radio DJ for the German regional radio station Hessischer Rundfunk. Readers of the technical magazines “Spex” and “Intro” have repeatedly voted for his program “Der Ball ist Rund” (The Ball is Round) as the best radio program in Germany. The show was discontinued in 2008. Since 2008, Walter has been working as an editor and host at the internet radio station ByteFM where, among other things, he produces the programme „Was ist Musik“ (What is Music). In 2009, ByteFM won the Grimme Online Award. In 2005, “Plattenspieler” (Record Player) was published, a book of conversations with Frank Witzel and Thomas Meinecke. In 2009, followed the sequel named “Die Bundesrepublik Deutschland” (The Federal Republic of Germany). At the moment, Walter is working on a book on the history of Frankfurt sub-cultures.
As an author, Klaus Walter writes for media outlets like German daily newspapers Süddeutsche Zeitung and TAZ, Swiss daily newspaper NZZ, Swiss weekly newspaper WOZ, Spex and German/Austrian weekly newspaper Jungle World. In addition to that, he works for German radio stations DLF, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, and German regional public-service broadcasters BR, NDR, WDR, and HR.
Lectureship: Since the 90s, Klaus Walter has been holding workshops and seminars on pop and radio, including at the Goethe University in the context of the training programme book and media practice.
