A weekend with a view

Look closely at what is happening.
Ilse Aichinger

Program

For three days, journalists will meet other knowledgeable mediators of information from different regions of the world in Innsbruck. In conversations with colleagues and other experts, visitors find out what is going on behind the scenes of the information on international events, which is often hastily and superficially conveyed, and can contribute.

Current social, political and cultural developments are the focus of the debates, from book presentations, exhibitions, doc-films and audio features. The Journalismusfest Innsbruck opens a window to the complex present in which we live.

LandRush

Frauke Huber and Uwe H. Martin document the global social and ecological impacts of agriculture—the leading driver of species extinction, climate change, soil erosion, desertification, and water scarcity. In their presentation, they put their Slow Journalism up for discussion. They will demonstrate how stories can be successfully followed for years and presented not only in traditional media, but also in an international art and research context in order to reach a diverse audience in the long term and trigger discussions beyond the media bubble. They will reflect why documenting ecological and social challenges of our times is not enough anymore, how we can assume responsibility for our future, why storytelling is essential to unlock societal transformation and how journalists can position themselves in an increasingly complex future.
