A weekend with a view

Look closely at what is happening.
Ilse Aichinger

Program

For three days, journalists will meet other knowledgeable mediators of information from different regions of the world in Innsbruck. In conversations with colleagues and other experts, visitors find out what is going on behind the scenes of the information on international events, which is often hastily and superficially conveyed, and can contribute.

Current social, political and cultural developments are the focus of the debates, from book presentations, exhibitions, doc-films and audio features. The Journalismusfest Innsbruck opens a window to the complex present in which we live.

Nature is Right. Does She Have Rights too?

In 2022, the salt lagoon Mar Menor was granted legal personhood—as the first European ecosystem. Legal philosopher and environmental activist Teresa Vicente Giménez was substantially involved in this process. In Innsbruck, she will report from this effort and Mar Menor special features. In August 2024, the district court of Erfurt recognised the rights of nature—the first German court to take this step. They referred to the project “Amazon of Rights” that is overseen by the University of Erfurt. On a more regional level, initiatives have now arisen for the rivers Loisach (Tyrol/Bavaria) and Isel in East Tyrol.
