Conveying stories about people working in research via elaborate design is the core concept of German science magazine Science Notes. This idea emerged in 2018 at the Research Centre for Science Communication of the Eberhard Karl University of Tübingen—originally as a spin-off of the event series sharing the same name, a science slam where the realm of science meets club culture. Since then, science magazine Science Notes has appeared twice per year as a single-topic issue each with their own, elaborate design. Format, cover, binding, visual concept and typography of the design concept are adapted each and every time to match the new topic of the issue. The editorial team always works with different journalists, authors, photographers, illustrators and artists to work on the content. It is a way of bringing science to life for a wide and younger audience.
