A weekend with a view

Look closely at what is happening.
Ilse Aichinger

Program

For three days, journalists will meet other knowledgeable mediators of information from different regions of the world in Innsbruck. In conversations with colleagues and other experts, visitors find out what is going on behind the scenes of the information on international events, which is often hastily and superficially conveyed, and can contribute.

Current social, political and cultural developments are the focus of the debates, from book presentations, exhibitions, doc-films and audio features. The Journalismusfest Innsbruck opens a window to the complex present in which we live.

Democracy Now! – Amy Goodman

The US political magazine programme Democracy Now! is one of the most impressive news formats in the world; according to its own figures, it is broadcast internationally by more than 1,500 radio, television and online stations. Since 1996, co-founder Amy Goodman has been the executive editor and main presenter of the donation-funded daily programme. Goodman and Democracy Now! have received numerous awards for their journalistic work, including the Right Livelihood Award, often referred to as the ‘alternative Nobel Prize’. Goodman’s motto is: ‘Please steal this story’ and share it with the world! The documentary, dedicated to her and her work, features conversations with Goodman, key milestones in her career and interviews with colleagues. The film also explores the alarming history of media commercialisation and attacks on press freedom in the USA.
