Armin Thurnher, born in 1949 in Bregenz. Studied English Studies, German Studies and Theatre Arts in New York and Vienna.
He is now editor of the Vienna weekly newspaper Falter, that he co-founded in 1977, and joint proprietor of the publishing house Falter-Verlag. Author of fourteen books. His most recent novel „Fähre nach Manhattan“ (A Ferry to Manhattan) was published in 2019, his political essay „Anstandslos“ (Without Decency and Hesitation) (2023) published by Zsolnay and his collection of poems „Preis und Klage“ (Praising and Deploring) (2024) im Czernin Verlag.
He was bestowed with numerous prizes and awards. Including the publishing prize of the City of Vienna, the Kurt Vorhofer Prize, the honorary award of the Austrian book trade for tolerance in thought and practice, the Otto Brenner Prize and the Austrian State Prize for Cultural Journalism.
He used to teach journalism at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He is member of the board of the ensemble Klangforum, of Viennale and (until 2019) of community television channel Okto. Based and working in Vienna and Oberhöflein.
