There is no alternative to a rapid switch to electromobility in order to at least slow down global warming. But equipping 2 billion passenger cars worldwide with batteries weighing tons would lead to new ecological disasters. The greed for raw materials to increase battery production a hundredfold in just a few years is already causing environmental damage in many parts of the world. And it is creating new dependencies. New technologies help. Riding a bicycle more often helps, too. But without a circular economy, responsible trade and alternative transport concepts, the promise of sustainable e-mobility remains a grand illusion.
