Dr. Deniss Hanovs, a cultural scientist and professor at the Art Academy of Latvia in Riga was born in Riga in 1977. He earned his PhD with his research on middle-class press and nation in the Baltic provinces in the 19^th century. As a researcher he developed an interest for the culture of remembrance in the post-colonial societies of Eastern Europe, especially for the situation of ethnic minorities in the Baltics.
