Galina Timchenko is the co-founder, CEO, and publisher of Meduza — the largest independent Russian publication released in Russian and English language. It is a media in exile that has been successfully operating for 8 years from Riga, Latvia. In April 2021, Russian authorities labeled Meduza as a ‘foreign agent,’ in March 2022 blocked its website and in January 2023 declared Meduza an ‘undesirable organization’. These actions were made to destroy the newsroom, but Meduza keeps resisting. Meduza also managed to save the majority of its audience due to its diverse and technologically advanced infrastructure. Galina also served as the editor-in-chief of Lenta.ru media from 2004 until 2014.
