In 1973, journalist Claus Biegert (born in 1947) turned to the indigenous people of North America and to date has remained steadfast to them. In his work as author and film maker, he puts one spotlight on uranium, a radioactive ore that is mined globally—predominantly on the land of indigenous people and causes the destruction of their habitats that will last for millennia. In 1992, he organised the world conference World Uranium Hearing, which led to the creation of the Nuclear-Free Future Award in 1999, which Biegert oversaw for 20 years. For some years now, he has dedicated his activities to the rights of nature. He is planning an international film, in which the Austrian-German river Loisach serves as the protagonist. He is based at Staffelsee lake, close to Loisach.
