Konny Gellenbeck was head of taz Cooperative and head of taz Panter Foundation in Berlin for many years. After graduating from university, she joined German daily newspaper taz in 1986. From 1996 onward, she developed the team of taz Cooperative and was head of this cooperative until 2020. Over the course of these years, Konny Gellenbeck was able to build a successful community management which secured the independence of taz. By early March 2025, there are now more than 24,000 owners. But even beyond taz, she has been working on the financial feasibility of independent journalism for over three decades. In 2012, she therefore launched an international campaign. In 2012, she published the book Gewinn für Alle. Genossenschaft als Wirtschaftsmodell der Zukunft (Gains for Everyone. Cooperative as Economic Model of the Future) (Frankfurt, Westend). This book comprises a presentation of this notion of a cooperative as a model for the future of a social, value-based market economy. In 2008, she was one of the founding forces of the taz Panter Foundation, which she led until 2024. Here, too, the focus of her work was on promoting independent journalism, supporting persecuted journalists worldwide, and fostering social engagement.
