Marcus Bachmann is Advocacy and Humanitarian Affairs Advisor for Médecins Sans Frontières / Ärzte ohne Grenzen – Österreich. He has twenty years of international experience in complex humanitarian crisis situations. The Tyrolean has focused on emergency responses to natural disasters, such as the earthquakes in Haiti and Türkiye, in war and conflict zones, such as Afghanistan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo or the Central African Republic, and severe malnutritional crises, such as in Chad or Nigeria. Another focus is on epidemics, including the management of five Ebola emergency interventions in Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Most recently, Marcus Bachmann was head of mission in Niger at the beginning of the year. In his advocacy work, he focuses on forced displacement and access to affordable medicines. Prior to this, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry in research and quality assurance.
